The following criteria are required to pass the Deep-Water Test. The swim test is considered pass/fail at the sole discretion of the administering staff member. Guards are happy to offer feedback to those who do not pass and lessons are available. Swimmers may take the test up to three times per day, at the discretion and availability of the staff/management. There are no appeals of the staff decision. This is for the safety of all swimmers.
The test includes:
- A non-stop freestyle swim of 1½ laps;
- Pause for water treading for 60 seconds; and
- A final ½ lap of freestyle swimming.
Stopping or resting will be considered an unsuccessful test. Parents are requested to stay off the pool deck during the test in order to avoid distraction and improper assessment of swimmers’ abilities.
Swimmers who want to take the test are to go to the front desk and ask to take the test. The test will be administered as soon as the lap lane is clear and personnel are available. Swimmers who pass the test must wear their deep-water wristbands at all times while at the pool.
